no sausages here

no mud, no rain, no trails. that's right, no off road. unless you count the overgrown bmx track and the park. town is covered in lights and christmasy treats and obstacles for the boys on their fixie bikes.

steps and slopes, skids and whoops and backwards riding. i pretty much just tagged along for the ride, with the promise of sausage for later. encouraged by their patient tuition i did try a few steps.

(thanks to chris for the evidence)

our ride of road and street was to end at the christmas market with sausages and mulled wine. by the time we got there, all the sausages were gone and i got asked for id (which i didn't have), so couldn't even have some booze! a fun alternative to our usual mudfest and maybe, just maybe i might try fixed...

So coooool! You got asked for ID! Wow! :-) That's a Xmas wish come true early - hey? Sorry you missed out on the booze though! Awesome ride. Yes, go fixed! If you do it, I'll do it, too!

Stair gap! Nice one Kate! Your photo reminded me of one of my most favourite posters I had on my wall almost a decade ago...

Congratulations on looking under 18. :)

I now love riding fixed on the road. I still think you'd have to be a complete nutter to want to ride it off-road though.

Urban hipster stylee riding, clearing steps, and you got asked for ID. How old are you? Nice one! I am very jealous as I currently feel about 102.

I've just realised that can't see any tinsel on that bike!

groover- fixed in the new year....?

thunder- wow! of course i was just warming up ;)

red- yeh, i think i'll try it on the road first. the tinsel's red so it's showing up too well, but it is there, honest!

jumbly- despite being asked for id, i felt positively granny like compared to the cool kids doing skids ;)

its always a good day when you get asked for id. well done for the lack of wrinkles.

On the fixie I still find it very hard to get my bum off the saddle and my weight back while going downhill. I also find it harder to balance while pedalling like the clappers than I do freewheeling.

If possible I would keep the rear brake on for your first ride.
Can you not just screw a sprocket onto your existing hub and use a bottom bracket lockring to keep it in place?

The only times I have been asked for id is when I am in bike kit - must keep us young. Did you not send one of the boys to the bar for you?

Sounds great fun, you can give me lessons when I get my fixie!

Oh and steps is one thing, but at an angle!!!!

kate said...

ppc- as smooth as a baby's bottom ;)

red- it's still a maybe!!

trio- promised the bouncer that i'd not drink so that i could get in! and the steps look much bigger in the photo than in reality and had to be taken at an angle

Asked for ID! Lucky thing. I was asked for ID in America a few years ago but they ask everyone.

Sounds like a good night.

simon- i might just do that, as long as you don't mind me going even slower!

simon l- i went to america when i 18 and didn't get id-ed at all! but i wasn't wearing a strange lycra outfit at the time
