Wye Ultra-time to think
I'd not been looking forward to this event for a number of reasons. Mainly due to my lack of preparation but also I knew the course wouldn't really suit me. Being relatively flat there would be no let up and pretty fast. A last minuet change of plan meant that instead of a 15m out and back there would be 2 laps of a 7.25m out and back route.
For some reason this caused me to have a small melt down which Jane received the brunt of. But as we'd arrive in typically late fashion I only had 5 minuets to worry about it before the gun went off. We had perfect running conditions. I should have been enjoying the views of the rolling country side and quiet lanes but in reality I was suffering and suffering far too quickly.
I guess this was to be expected, all things considered. I can honestly say that I had to 'dig deep' to finish this run. Physiologically I'm really pleased that I made it round. Knowing now that I can push myself when it hurts and when it would be very easy to give up.
With just under 5 hours of contemplation time I'm now determined to make a real effort towards bgr training.

Aww Kate, that sounds like it was really hard, well done for pushing on - 30 miles is amazing.
I have a love/hate relationship with laps, when I'm feeling good I like that I know exactly what's coming on subsequent laps. When I'm feeling crap I prefer not to know.

red bike-probably not explaining myself very well. 30m will be tough but i made a lot tough on myself by not training properly for it. that's what i get frustrated about. i'm pleased with the result but i might be in less pain or finished a bit quicker if i'd made the effort in the weeks before. but who know's, maybe my super-taper is what i needed ;)
A lot of distance stuff is mental, so big tick there! Sounds a good event! laps can be so hard! I try not to lap near my house when training as I know I would stop!
Kate, impressive! You must be beaming today? It's a big step. Often i get phyched out by distance, but just try to break it all down into chunks in my head. When it comes to the hills don't think of the distance, just think of the hill you are on. Picture it's shape in your head, imagine it with a cherry on top! ;-)
good on yer kate. i wouldnt do an out n back so i didnt do this. doubly glad i didnt as i hate laps even more. well done for your true grit!
iain-beaming is one word, hobbling is another ;) i just hope that i can build on this now
uc-you're right laps are the worse courses but i think they nearly had to cancel the event so it was better than nothing. thank you :)
