grrrrrrrr, arrrrrhhh

all i want to do is change a chain ring.

probably half an hour job, i have all the tools.

no, nothing ever goes to plan when it involves me, spanners and a bike. two bolts have been removed with a bit of swearing, wd40 and a rounding of a screwdriver. the other two little b@stard bolts are completely ceased on. i can't even resort to my usual desperate method of hacksawing as i broke all the blades last time and haven't replaced them.

Hacksaws, screwdrivers, spanners?

I think I need to find you a set of hex socket inserts.

I expect there's a team of people on hand to sort this one out put shout if your stuck.

If it makes you feel a little better I rounded my cleat bolts off last night on both shoes and can't get them off. My usual fall back of getting Jez to sort it out somehow (and he usually does) won't work as he is on a plane to Oz.

I have ordered new shoes (was going to anyway) and am deciding whether to have a go at drilling the old bolts out and probably making an even bigger mess.

Have you skinned your knuckles on the chain ring whilst trying to remove it? If you haven't then your a lot more mechanically adept than I'll ever be!

red-spanners was a general term ;) i have been using the correct size allen key with a screwdriver on the back to stop the bolt turning!!

julbags-no knuckle scrapage but i seem i have permanent dents in my index fingers! when's jez getting back ;)

*** after a chocolate snack and sit down. i approached with re-newed energy. only one bolt left-it might take another chocolaty treat to finish the job off!

Not until the end of September (crossing everything that nothing breaks on my bikes in the meantime). His thumb should be sorted by then too.

I bet you didn't even know they existed!!

Worth an investment.

You can borrow mine later for cake ;-)

julbags-ooh, forgot about the thumb :(

chris-what would i do without you :)

*** however, crisis adverted. i can't bend my index fingers but blackie is now 34:16. does need a half link though, but at least i have a lovely parktool chain tool :)

Skinned knuckles?! Pah! Try having your finger slip between the chain-ring and chain and an accidental back pedal of quarter of a turn. Fu.....!

Glad that chocolate and brute force have sorted things for you and that Blackie is happily fixed. I love that Julbags has just ordered new shoes as the solution to stuck cleat bolts, she's definitely a girl after my own heart!

In my defence I did grease them but with silicon grease so its probably washed out by now. I'll try copper grease this time.
