honestly, it's not going well. i could use the 'just going back to work and it's bloody tiring', or 'been busy with forms', or 'fat leg still a bit iffy' or, well the list could go on. all a load of bollox.
we're off to the lakes in a few days. i'm hoping a change of scenery and some big hills will remind me why pounding the pavements is a means to an end.

big hills in the lakes, he sniggered
but seriously i'd be self conscious too if i had to haul that fat leg about in public...
no, but really seriously, coming back off an injury is rubbish at the best of times far less in the season of cold and darkness. keep to your targets, suck it up, maybe think about introducing some alternative activities (that aren't eating cakes!) and enjoy yr time away
oh aye and don't forget yr head. keep it busy or it'll find time to trip you up on all manner of things. not that i know anything about thta. no, no, no, no....
I'm off to the Lakes in a week or two too, well several weeks really (Begining of March). I can't wait!
I'm sure the motivation will soon return.
Any must see fells you can recommend? (Ones that don't involve ice hacks, knee deep snow or wading through icy streams.)
just remember how lucky you are to be the kind of person who appreciates the great outdoors and get out into the hills Kate and enjoy.
get well soon x
swiss- it's all relative, big compared to the flat lands of nottingham! and thanks, you seem to have a great insight into my brain. less cakes and more crosswords, or something like that ;)
red- where abouts are you staying? biking or running?
ppc- you're right. just feeling sorry for myself for no good reason. but apparently today is meant to be the most 'depressing day' of the year. great, i'm just another statistic ;)
perfectly normal to have a whinge, i'm just trying to drag you out into the brighter side ;)
you can pay me back tomorrow when its my go.
Yes, we reckon you'll feel better away from work and to go to the Lakes ASAP for as long as possible. Wait til you are doing your nursing course then you really will be depressed. Seriously though you will feel better as you run/bike more!
A trip to the lakes sounds like just what you need. Much more fun than tarmac pounding! Although the hills will feel like mountains with all the flat easy running you hae been doing ;-)
Here's hoping the leg we shall no longer refer to as fat has a lovely holiday in the Lakes. And, that you and Jane have a good time too, of course.
ppc- cheers mate, will do :)
charlie- funny how it's all the nurses and doctors think my 'career move' is fool hardy ;) and you're right, i just need to get out there.
trio- just so you know, there are some inclines in nottingham ;)
jumbly- cheers! maybe see you soon?
Kate I think you are crazy as well!!!
Ali thought there were hills in Cambridge when she was young as well!
trio- ok, undulating might but slightly more accurate ;)
the flat lands came from two experiences over the last year
the first, a friend over from switzerland wanted to see the highlands. these, he said, these are what you call mountains. and sniggered
the second, was one fo the indian guys i work with trying to convince me that india wasn't too hot for me. go to the mountains he said. then, without a hint of irony - and when i say mountains, i mean mountains, not these things you have here. in india we wouldn't even call those foothills.
i thank them both.
and having been on many a displacement odyssey i recognise the symptoms. tidy house, beautiful ironing, what is it i'm supposed to be doing? oh yes....
swiss- "that's not a knife...."
...i have yet to stoop to ironing. mainly gratuitous baking!
