serves me right for all the 'new commuter' teasing. to cut a short story even shorter, i 'won' a bike from ebay. dreams of steel fixed commuting have been crushed due to inadvertently spending £53 on a child's bike. it is lovely though and i'm unsure what to do now.
i could still go down the fixed route but i really wanted a bike with 700cc wheels. i doubt there'll be much advantage over my current commuter. so, today's plea, does anyone have an old steel frame/bike suitable for singlespeed/fixed, rack and mudguard mounts going cheap or willing to swap for a similar yet smaller bike?!!
*essay completed with 5hrs to spare and another lovely sunrise witnessed on friday morning.

Titter, snigger.. whilst reading had fleeting mental image of you cycling to work in zigzags with clown pants and big red nose. Not that it's funny at all. I own no wheels to swap but good luck with that and very well done for being such a swot and getting your essay done so early.Great sky too. RB.
So how small is it?
It's not that small - I think it's actually the right size for her, but she doesn't want to admit that she has to have a child's bike ;)
Old skool bikes often had smaller wheels!
The photos look good though
rb- brilliant, thanks. i could even get a horn instead of a bell ;)
trio- the frame's ok-ish, it's just the wheels are 26". so probably not worth the time/effort of spannering??
jane- it.is.TOO.small.
trio- really? i didn't know that. when did road bikes start getting bigger wheels?
sbrt- and that's the important thing ;)
Not sure, but I know someone I used to work with had a classic bike and it was 26"
A road bike is still probably quicker than the current bike, and fixed would be nice!
But I don't know much about stuff like that.
trio- hmm, that makes me feel slightly less stupid!!
why not sell it again on ebay (or a card in the local supermarket) and try again?
dominic- good point BUT having had a closer look i think it will take 700c wheels...the only probably now is the fork space seems to be particularly small :-/ ....i think i might be following your suggestion!!
eBay can be addicting,LOL! It's a good looking bike from what I can see (and YAY! I can see it,no Blogger issues today :) )
Over here,I can remember as a kid back in the '70s lots of roadbikes ("10 speeds" they were) had 26" wheels. SS or fixed sounds awesome! Congrads on the score!
why cant i stop the theme tune from casualty playing in my tiny mind as i look at that shot. enough!
ss- yup, new bikes are always good, even if they're a little on the small side.
uc- fortunately/unfortunately the reality is very different ;)
