Spent a tortuous few hours in town trying to purchase 'smart' clothes due to an impending interview. I absolutely hate clothes shopping. Where do people buy their work clothes from? Everything I saw today was horrible. Why would you want to wear a stretchy shirt with puffy shoulders?
After the jumble sale of TK Max I went to h&m which was just as bad. I found myself wondering aimlessly around Marks picking up outfits that my nan wouldn't even wear. I even went to Monsoon. I have never been there before and will never go back. Maybe I should have worn 'proper' shoes, as my battered inov-8's didn't do me any favours. I need some kind of make-over but without the public humiliation!
Off to north Wales tomorrow for a weeks holiday with Jane's family. Should be able to get some decent runs and a bit of biking in. Might even race on Saturday and test if my new diet of chocolate has improved my fitness!

I was very scared to scroll down this page incase there was a before and after photograph.
I just use Tesco, Asda...
£5ish a shirt and tie. One of the few advantages of being a bloke.
Are you going to let on what this interview is for, or is it hush hush again?

Am I close?
Nearly forgot to wish you good luck with both (Clothes shopping and the interview).
I buy nearly all my clothes in Tescos! Means I don't have to waste a weekend going into town when I could be out biking :-) And I don't like spending lots of money on 'smart' clothes that I don't actually like
tesco's it is then! never even thought of that. and redbike, i'd have to kill you if i told ;)
Clothes shopping is a nightmare when you HAVE to buy something. I like clothes shopping when you don't look for anything specific and just stroll without the pressure of having to come home with something. Funny, but I never have problems finding something appropriate to wear in a bike shop. LOL
I had an my first interview for 7 years last month for a teacher training course. I wore my one and only suit. Fantastically, I'll slightly slimmer than I was when I got married so it fits. On the down side, its not as fashionable as it once was. Good luck finiding some clothes and with the interview.
Mine are all from M&S Ali's mainly tesco's. My trick was to go really early just as the shops were opening so they were quiet! In fact the first time I went to the trafford centre I got there before it opened - by accident I didn't realise it opened so late. But it was lovely noone in the shops and once they officially opened I had choosen my clothes could pay and go.
When is the interview? Good luck!
groover-i know exactly what you mean, bike shops running shop-easy! i can't believe people pay over £20 for clothes that aren't even waterproof ;)
simon-that must have been a very smug moment when you put the suit one ;) hope it went well
trio-never realised how popular tesco would be. interview's on monday. so i'm driving back from wales to be 'brilliant' for 1.5hrs then driving back again-i'd better get it!! ...nothing as exciting as your new job though
Good luck for the day, when is it? I'm now intrigued by the mystery. We could do some online role play practice ;D
For a non-supermarket option I buy work stuff from Zara. The stuff they sell ranges from pricey to bargain & theyt often have a good choice of plain stuff without the frills and puffy bits! I have to wear smart every day at work and Zara doesn't break the bank and lasts pretty well.
Thanks Kate. Yes, it did feel good and it did go well. I start teacher training in September.
Good luck!
Seems like when I go shopping I either find nothing or way too much. And I never can find what I want when I'm looking for something specific! It's so much easier to buy bike clothes.
Good luck Simon, I won't tell any horror stories!
I feel your pain. Last time I went shopping for smart stuff I had to take a photo of myself on my phone send it my sister and wait for her to text me back to let me know if I looked OK. That's how crap at buying smart stuff I am. Outdoorsy stuff no problems though.
Good Luck with the interview!
good luck with the interview!
(i'm a howies fan)
but why do some companies insist on 'smart' clothes. they dont make you any more intelligent. look for a company thats not living in the dark ages kate..it'll be more 'you' and you'll be able to wear your invo8s too :)
