wk6 'the plan' round up

aka the view from the sofa.

fat leg less fat and more just a bit lame. definitely on the mend but i've been 'signed off' for the week. so another week of nothing then (hopefully) ease back into training. however, i have been told by three separate medical professionals that it'll be six weeks before i can run.

which i guess means no strathpuffer. riding/pushing a bike round snowy hills in north scotland for 24 hours will probably not help get back to 'the plan'. gutted. this wasn't an event that i've particularly trained for (when do i ever do that!) but last year was a blast and i feel like there's unfinished business. but this year is all about the west highland way race....there's always next year for 'puffer.

going to contact a sports physio tomorrow...maybe they will say something different...

Sorry to hear you're still laid up - that leg is pretty dramatic girl...you really whacked it huh?

:-(

Have you had any time off work yet? If not I really think you should! Is that Risk you were playing? Is it good? I played it a lot along time ago but the new version looks a bit complicated for an old g*t like me.
What I'm trying to say is...is it worth investing the time learning the rules (?) as we got a new set for Xmas.

Bloody hell Kate, I bruise spectacularly but that is something else. You must have gone down very hard.

Your injury has convinced me even more that riding in icy conditions is not for me.

Oh, sending healing vibes your way.

I'm sure I read in this weekends paper that fat, yellow legs are this seasons must haves, so it could be worse. Seriously, good luck with the sports physio, hope they are a bit more optimistic.

You'll get there :) Just don't let yourself go crazy in the mean-time...and don't jump back too soon or you may reinjured yourself. Good/healing vibes sent your way in hopes of a speedy recovery,my friend :)

fatlad- thanks for the thoughts :)

julbags- i think i did more damage by running so soon after. i've leaned my lesson now!

jumbly- cheers mate :)

ss- i know you're right, it's just so frustrating :(

SO 6 weeks till running. How long till biking? That is low impact so guess a lot earlier. In fact surely you might even be able to get on a turbo (shudder) at the moment?

Hope one more week and it will be a lot better. What do they say it is?

Blimey Kate, that looks horrifically bruised. I'm sending you some sympathy.

I'm off the bike too and very disgruntled.

trio- by running i managed to spread the bruise and possibly rupture part of my calf muscle. i'm still taking pain relief 4x daily. yesterday it completely swelled up again after being out and about, despite crutches. and due to the swelling/bruising around my shin it means i don't have full movement in my ankle. as it causes to much pressure on the shin and is really painful. maybe pedaling in a week but at the moment i've been told to rest and reduce the swelling/bruising. any exercise now will just make it worse. it's 11 days since i did it and it's still swollen.

red- thank you :) i think it's probably wise to stay off two wheels for a bit!

Rubbish!

So when can you start one legged cycling!

In order to get it sorted you need to sit on the sofa and not move, I am sure your slave/j will wait on you hand and foot!

trio- i asked that yesterday and she just repeated "nothing!"!! j is being brilliant, i don't think i'm a very good patient.

can you swim? Kayak? run in a pool with those weight things on?

kate said...

elizabeth- kayak! i probably don't need another hobby right now ;) but swimming is a possibility. seeing a sports physio on thurs...

I know I would be rubbish! Sending hugs.

Kate - just catching up on your blog (mine has a new name you should link to it via me following you???)

Anyway - blimey you've been in the wars! hope you're on the road to a full recovery and get there very soon. Chin up, don't let the RICE monster get you, you'll be back out there before you know it :-) x

Hope the leg heals soon. Plenty of time to get yourself ready for WHW 2010. Don't rush things. It will be tough enough without coming at it carrying an injury.

All the very best with your patience and training.
