...just a little bit of politics...

great news about the forests! that's the first successful petition i have ever signed. probably also says a lot more about the demographic who organised and spoke out. i doubt those most affected by the welfare cuts will be heard with such sincerity.

to be honest i've been feeling more than a little jaded with regards to politics in recent years. pretty much every demonstration i have ever been on has had little to no effect. do you remember when... further education was free...when over 100,000 folks took to london town in protest of the invasion of iraq...hmmm. and what with the current state of affairs you do begin to wonder why you bothered voting in the first place. but that's the point, i've earned the right to complain!

lets ride this wave of people power. join the national demonstration against cuts. march 26th, victoria embankment, london town.

that is all.

Yep, Helen is going on the 26th. My appointed task however is to stay at home looking after Ozzy and Skyline fretting...

It is good news Kate, thats for sure. However, what most people don't realise its being going on for years (ever since Maggie Thatcher tried it in the early 90's). They are still planning on selling some smaller outlying less productive areas; its only the larger forested areas that will remain unaffected. Although this is often not a bad thing as new owners tend to have more money to spend on them to improve the habitat and management of the area. Whereas the FC generally shut the gate on the remote areas (back to those spending cuts again!) and a lot are often negelected (says he from first hand experience). Still though I agree the nation needs to keep the current FC forests :)

Well done, I'm yet to experience the joys of a successful petition. The ones I signed? Petition #1: Day Light Saving for Queensland - smashed because the cows can't cope with the time difference! Petition #2: 1m minimum didtance when passing a bicycle on the road - smashed because motorised vehicles can't cope with too much space!

dorian- so, not just content with stealing our milk, she was nabbing our forests too! interesting comments though, i hadn't realised that was the case around funding.

groover- but the important thing is that you cared enough to try and make a difference. keep on pedaling and keep on signing :)
